        The article doesn’t really go into it further, but i assumed they are just trying to see if it can be done cheaper in zero gravity.

          It’s not about cheaper. You can grow crystals in zero-g that won’t grow in 1g, and those crystals have the potential to outperform what we make on Earth.

    These are pharmaceutical drugs, but illicit drugs would also be an interesting legal case.
